Spook-Tacular Fun Awaits in RiverSouth
October is officially upon us, and this month RiverSouth is giving you plenty to scream about. Here are eight great RiverSouth events to make you shriek with joy or cower with fear.
Fun takes a terrifying turn as Valleyfair transforms into ValleySCARE, the upper Midwest’s largest Halloween attraction. As darkness falls, Halloween Haunt comes to life with nearly 400 creatures occupying more than a dozen of the most intense and terrifying mazes and scare zones as well as your favorite thrill rides. Halloween Haunt is open Friday and Saturday nights through October 31, and Thursday, October 15.
The season of barbecues and outdoor festivals is winding down, but Mystic Lake is your year-round place to party! Lederhosen is optional at their free Oktoberfest celebration Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3. The festivities include live music, German food and drink specials, free caricatures and German-themed games. As the month ends they’re going back in time with the Totally Awesome 80s Halloween Weekend Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31. The fun includes free entertainment, giveaways, drink specials, and a costume contest on Halloween night with a top prize of $1,000.
The Trail of Terror returns to the Renaissance Festival grounds October 9 – 31. This sprawling, terror-filled festival conjures up plenty of ways to make you scream. This year, check out the all-new escape room, along with spine-chilling attractions like the Howling Pines, Hotel 666, Crystal Caverns and more.
Picture the Kentucky Derby times 13—that’s the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. October 30 and 31 marks two days of championship races featuring the best horses in the world live from Keeneland Race Course, and you can watch and wager on all the action at Canterbury Park. The $5 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic highlights the two-day affair, featuring Triple Crown Winner American Pharoah taking on a full field.
This October Jim Cunningham (The Feastmaster from The Minnesota Renaissance Festival’s Feast of Fantasy) personally invites you to join him for The Phantom’s Feast—a Ghost Hunt of Bad Manor! Long believed to be haunted, Bad Manor was the site of a complete paranormal investigation in 2013. The findings will astound you! Come hear the chilling tales of the actual ghosts of Bad Manor. There are only nine Phantom Feast opportunities beginning October 23, so get your tickets early.

Make your way through a corn maze, hear a Halloween tale from the Storytelling Witch, or stuff your treat bag on a trek across the park. Plus, check out some unique animals at our Cock-A-Doodle-Zoo. The Great Pumpkin Fest is open Saturdays and Sundays through November 1.
