Spook-Tacular Fun Awaits in RiverSouth

October is officially upon us, and this month RiverSouth is giving you plenty to scream about. Here are eight great RiverSouth events to make you shriek with joy or cower with fear.

ValleySCARE Halloween Haunt

Fun takes a terrifying turn as Valleyfair transforms into ValleySCARE, the upper Midwest’s largest Halloween attraction. As darkness falls, Halloween Haunt comes to life with nearly 400 creatures occupying more than a dozen of the most intense and terrifying mazes and scare zones as well as your favorite thrill rides. Halloween Haunt is open Friday and Saturday nights through October 31, and Thursday, October 15.

Oktoberfest & Totally Awesome 80s Halloween

The season of barbecues and outdoor festivals is winding down, but Mystic Lake is your year-round place to party! Lederhosen is optional at their free Oktoberfest celebration Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3. The festivities include live music, German food and drink specials, free caricatures and German-themed games. As the month ends they’re going back in time with the Totally Awesome 80s Halloween Weekend Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31. The fun includes free entertainment, giveaways, drink specials, and a costume contest on Halloween night with a top prize of $1,000.

Trail of Terror

The Trail of Terror returns to the Renaissance Festival grounds October 9 – 31. This sprawling, terror-filled festival conjures up plenty of ways to make you scream. This year, check out the all-new escape room, along with spine-chilling attractions like the Howling Pines, Hotel 666, Crystal Caverns and more.

Breeders’ Cup World Championships

Picture the Kentucky Derby times 13—that’s the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. October 30 and 31 marks two days of championship races featuring the best horses in the world live from Keeneland Race Course, and you can watch and wager on all the action at Canterbury Park. The $5 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic highlights the two-day affair, featuring Triple Crown Winner American Pharoah taking on a full field.

The Phantom’s Feast

This October Jim Cunningham (The Feastmaster from The Minnesota Renaissance Festival’s Feast of Fantasy) personally invites you to join him for The Phantom’s Feast—a Ghost Hunt of Bad Manor! Long believed to be haunted, Bad Manor was the site of a complete paranormal investigation in 2013. The findings will astound you! Come hear the chilling tales of the actual ghosts of Bad Manor. There are only nine Phantom Feast opportunities beginning October 23, so get your tickets early.

The Great Pumpkin Fest

Tiny terrors can join Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang for some not-so-scary daytime family fun during The Great Pumpkin Fest at ValleySCARE. Make your way through a corn maze, hear a Halloween tale from the Storytelling Witch, or stuff your treat bag on a trek across the park. Plus, check out some unique animals at our Cock-A-Doodle-Zoo. The Great Pumpkin Fest is open Saturdays and Sundays through November 1.

Win a New German Car

You could be hitting the open road this October in a new German car! Mystic Lake is giving away a luxury car Saturday nights through October 24 during Autobahn Bonanza. Dozens of people will win up to $1,000 in free slot play every Saturday night, and the grand prize winner each week drives home a new Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Porsche!

Fall Poker Classic

The Midwest’s premier poker event, the Fall Poker Classic, returns to Canterbury Park October 3 – 18. The two-week stretch includes over 30 tournaments with more than $1.5 million in estimated prizes up for grabs. Buy-Ins range from $100 to $5,000, so there’s a game for every level. Pull up a chair!

That’s eight great ways to fill October. Of course, you can always find the latest events and Big Fun at RiverSouthMN.com.
