September Happenings in the Land of Big Fun

Summer may be winding down, but the fun is going strong in RiverSouth. Check our top picks for September at Minnesota’s biggest attractions, just four miles apart.

Canterbury Park
September brings the final weekends of live horse racing for the 2016 season at Canterbury Park September 10 – 11 and September 15 – 17. For year-round racing excitement, visit the Race Book at Canterbury Park, where you can watch all of the action from America’s top race tracks.

Junk Bonanza, an event for purveyors and shoppers of vintage finds, beautiful antiques and artisan-repurposed pieces, returns to Canterbury Park Thursday, September 22 – Saturday, September 24. Located inside the Canterbury Expo Center, the show will be open 10 am – 5 pm Thursday and 9 am – 5 pm Friday and Saturday.

Tickets are $10 each day. Early bird tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Early bird tickets give you a two-hour start on shopping before the doors open for general admission!

Valleyfair has big end-of-summer thrills for little bills during Dollar Days, September 10 and 11. Score $1 deals on select food, merchandise and games all weekend long.

September also means the fun is about to take a terrifying turn as Valleyfair transforms into ValleySCARE, the upper Midwest’s largest Halloween attraction with something to satisfy everyone’s devilish desire. Join Snoopy and the Peanuts gang for some not-so-scary daytime fun at The Great Pumpkin Fest. As night falls, the Halloween Haunt comes to life with more than a dozen of the most intense haunted mazes and scare zones. Experience tight spaces, extreme situations and unforgettable encounters designed to test the boundaries of your worst fears.

Two great experiences, one unforgettable trip! ValleySCARE is open select dates September 17 through October 30.

Minnesota Renaissance Festival
The Minnesota Renaissance Festival, now in its 46th season, features some wonderful themed weekends in September, including Wine, Chocolate & Romance September 10 and 11, Pet Fest September 17 and 18, and Shamrocks & Shenanigans September 24 and 25.

The Renaissance Festival honors first responders on September 11. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics and EMTs receive half off on admission with employment ID.

The Festival is open weekends and Festival Friday, September 30 through October 2, 2016. Gates are open 9 am – 7 pm rain or shine, with plenty of free parking.

Mystic Lake
Get a double dose of laughter this weekend at the Mystic Comedy Club! Headliner Joe DeRosa has two half-hour Comedy Central specials and four comedy albums under his belt. He’s also been seen on Better Call Saul, Inside Amy Schumer, Louie and Bored To Death. Feature act and Minnesota native Chris Maddock hosts the long-running Death Comedy Jam at Grumpy’s Bar in downtown Minneapolis. Tickets for Mystic Comedy Club shows are just $19.

Based on the hit TV show, Let’s Make A Deal Live! is coming to Mystic Lake for four shows September 23 – 25. The interactive on-stage experience gives audience “Traders” the chance to make deals for big cash and prizes just like on TV. Each show will culminate with one lucky “Trader” having a chance at the “Big Deal of the Day,” worth more than $15,000! Mystic Lake gets the excitement going earlier in the week with their Let’s Make a Deal Live! Stage Show Drawings September 19 – 21. Enter each evening from 5 – 9 pm to win prizes including Free Slot Play, hotel stays, dining vouchers, and tickets to Let’s Make a Deal Live!
