Fall Festivities Continue in the Land of Big Fun!

The best horses in the world compete at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park for $26 million in purse money, and Canterbury Park is the best place in Minnesota to watch the Breeders’ Cup! Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of miniature railroading at The Great Train Show, November 5 and 6 at the Canterbury Park Expo Center. The train show is designed for children of all ages: modelers, collectors and enthusiasts; families in search of good old-fashioned fun; and for the simply curious. It features hundreds of tables of trains for sale, a huge operating model train display, plus free workshops, demonstrations and prize giveaways. The Great Train Show is open 10 am – 4 pm each day. On-site admission is $9 for a one-day ticket and $10 for a two-day ticket. Kids 11 and under are free.
Canterbury Park hosts The Autumn Festival: An Arts & Crafts Affair, November 10 – 13, featuring more than 500 artists and crafters from 30 states with row after row of handcrafted, one-of-a-kind home decor and gifts. Plus, enjoy live entertainment and plenty of food and drink. The festival is open Thursday and Friday 11 am – 9 pm, Saturday 9 am – 7 pm and Sunday 10 am – 5 pm. Ladies, it’s time to let loose November 4 and 5 at Mystic lake! Mazopiya, a natural food market, hosts A Taste of the Holidays on November 12 from noon to 4 pm, with free classes and giveaways, local vendor samples and a holiday shopping guide.
On Saturday, November 19, Dakotah! Sport and Fitness will sponsor its annual Turkey Trot 5K. The 3.1-mile event will start at Dakotah! and wind through The Meadows at Mystic Lake, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s award-winning golf course. Registration is $25 through November 16 or until the race fills and is available online at active.com or by picking up a form at Dakotah!. The 5K starts at 8 am, with an awards ceremony to follow. Awards will be given to the first, second, and third place overall male and female finishers and age group winners. All registered runners will receive a t-shirt. A half-mile kids’ fun run will be held at 8:45 am; the registration fee for the fun run is $10, though no pre-registration is needed.
