Fun is amping up in the Land Of Big Fun with the return of live racing at Canterbury Park, Valley Fair opens, entertainment at Mystic Lake, local farmers markets and more.

It’s an exciting weekend at Canterbury Park as they kick off the 2018 season and host the two greatest minutes in sports.

Canterbury Park is off to the races on Friday, May 4 as live racing kicks off. Enjoy live music, drink and food specials, and of course, live racing.

Then on Saturday, May 5, Canterbury Park hosts Minnesota’s largest Kentucky Derby party. Celebrate the 144th Run for the Roses at Canterbury Park with live music from Boogie Wonderland. Show us your finest in the Derby Hat Contest, enjoy a Red Carpet Selfie Station and more. Derby attire admired, not required. Buy your season admission pass to make sure you don’t miss a moment of excitement this season.

Mystic Lake is again bringing the laughs with Billy Bonnell & Steve Simeone on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5. LA-based Bonnell writes for Comedy Central’s Digital Lab and is a co-founding member of The Tunguska Yacht Club, an online sketch group that has over four million views on YouTube and Funny or Die. He’s also co-headlined the Riot Festival in downtown LA alongside the best comics in the world. Steve Simeone made his Comedy Central debut on Gabriel Iglesias’ “Stand up Revolution.” This year, he can be seen on Ari Shaffir’s “This is Not Happening” storytelling show. His first album “Remember This” went to the top of the charts on both Billboard and iTunes. You can also tune into Simeone’s popular podcast “Good Times.”

Celebrate spring at Prior Lake’s Lakefront Park Spring-A-Ding on Saturday, May 5. There’s plenty of free fun for the whole family with a petting zoo, inflatables, live entertainment, face painting, sand art and much more. And new this year, there is a Flower Power 5K Fun Run with R.O.C.K.

The wait is over: Valleyfair opens Friday, May 11. Try the new Delirious ride along with new foods and updates to the picturesque Route 76 area. Plus, it’s Food Truck Friday, where every Friday through June 15, you can enjoy some of Minnesota’s best food trucks. Save the date for Saturday, May 26 when Soak City opens just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend. Come play at Valleyfair!

Ladies, while the guys are out fishing, grab your girl friends and come to Mystic Lake and Canterbury Park for an epic Ladies Weekend!

Catch Australia’s “hottest” export, the men of Thunder From Down Under, at Mystic Lake. This fully interactive show will turn your wildest dreams into reality. These sexy Aussie gents with their boy-next-door charm will show off their chiseled bodies, seductive dance moves and cheeky humor while bringing fantasies to life. Look out for police officers, firefighters and cowboys, who leave little to the imagination and lots to appreciate. They’re so popular they’re doing two shows Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12.

Ladies, while you’re at Mystic Lake on Saturday, May 12, get your picture taken with hunky male models, enjoy specialty drinks, sample fine wines while crafting your own keepsake and more.

Over at Canterbury Park, it’s the Ladies NLH Tournament on Friday, May 11. Come play some poker with special buy-ins. Then head outside to the track to enjoy Music in the Park with drink specials, racing and live music from the Thrillbillies.

On Saturday, May 12 Canterbury Park is hosting Ladies Summer School. This two-hour session will help you pick more winners while learning more about handicapping and wagering. Tuition includes: live racing admission, food voucher, handicapping workbook, $2 betting voucher, t-shirt, and a free admission pass for future use.

The I Love the 90’s Tour comes to Mystic Lake on Friday, May 18. This show brings you some of the 90’s most iconic names in rap, hip-hop and R&B performing your favorite hits. Relive the 90’s with performances by Vanilla Ice, Salt-N-Pepa, Tone Lōc, Color Me Badd, Rob Base and Young MC.

It’s a special racecourse at Valleyfair’s 4th Annual Run & Ride Race. On Saturday, May 19 watch the sun rise while running though the park before the gates open. Choose from the half-marathon, quarter-marathon (6.55 miles), 5K, or 1-mile distance. High-five Snoopy. Earn a very cool medal. And enjoy fabulous swag. Runners also receive a free ticket to the park. Bring the whole family to take advantage of discounted rates for park tickets.

It’s the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 19. Come to Canterbury Park to watch and wager. The first 4,000 fans will get a special t-shirt and everyone can enjoy special Royal Wedding-themed events and activities.
