Renaissance Festival Preview
We’re eagerly anticipating the opening of the 48th annual Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Travel back to the 16th century and experience medieval life with daily jousting, unique street acts, stage performers, musicians, artisanal vendors and more. Every weekend of the Renaissance Festival has plenty of fun in store.
The new Buccaneer Beer Bash on Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19 promises to be a rousing good time. Take belly dance lessons and then watch the championships. Work up an appetite at the new Turkey Leg Trot 5K on Sunday. There’s also a Steampunk costume contest, new Fantasy costume contest, Longbow competition and much more!
Break out your tartan for the Highland Fling on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26. See the world’s best amateurs compete in the Highland Heavy Games Championship. Plus enjoy traditional Scottish dancers, the Scotch egg eating contest and keg toss.
Adventure awaits you at the Renaissance Festival’s new Bold North Adventure. The weekend of Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 has a special Minnesota flair with a new MN Made Marketplace, Uff Da Hot Dish Eating Contest and more. Labor Day, Monday, September 3, is also the annual Christmas in September, Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest and Magic Tournament.
It’s an ode to the Irish on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9 at Shamrocks & Shenanigans. Take a stroll through an Irish village, kick up your heels with Irish tunes and dancers, or show your loved one how much you care at the new wooing contest.
It’ll feel like Valentine’s Day in September at the most romantic weekend of the Renaissance Festival with Wine, Chocolate and Romance on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16. Partake in the indulgent chocolate festival or watch the epic cupcake battle. Make it a memorable weekend and renew your vows! New this year are grape stomp and cake smashing competitions.
Hear ye, hear ye, pet lovers, the Renaissance Festival is going to the dogs at their 12th annual Pest Fest on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23. Dress up your pooch for the doggy costume contest, watch the wiener dog races and peanut butter licking contest. New this year, participate in the Ugliest Dog Competition. It’s a weekend of medieval fun for your 4-legged friend.
Celebrate the last weekend of the season at Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30. The weekend is a celebration of all things German with a sauerkraut eating contest and lederhosen and dirndl costume contest. Play bier pong and the traditional German game hammerschlagen. And for the gents, break out the beard oil for the beard competition.
